***Mr. Monk and the Seventh Season***

*****************************************

No, it's not the newest Monk episode, Monk has been renewed for a seventh season. Season will begin Friday, July 18th. Filming (for season seven) should start about eight to ten weeks after season six ends, according to Tony Shalhoub. Here are a few articles mentioning the renewal.

NEW YORK, NYFebruary 20, 2008USA Network announced today that MONK, the award-winning original series starring Emmy, Golden Globe and SAG Award winner Tony Shalhoub, has been picked up for a seventh season, with a 16 episode order.  Season seven of the hit show will premiere the first half of the season in July and the second half in January 2009.  The announcement was made by Jeff Wachtel, USA's executive vice president, original programming.

"You might say we were obsessed with making this deal," said Wachtel.  "Let's face it, it's not easy to wash your hands of a show like MONK.  We have high hopes that this summer it will once again clean up in the ratings."

"Monk" will be back on the case for a seventh season.

USA Network has given a 16-episode order to the drama series that stars Tony Shalhoub as Adrian Monk, a brilliant detective who suffers from obsessive-compulsive disorder. The cable channel is targeting a July premiere for the first half of the show, which is from Universal Media Studios in association with Mandeville Films and ABC Studios, and January for the second half.

In addition to Shalhoub, the rest of the cast also is set to return, including Traylor Howard, Ted Levine and Jason Gray-Stanford.

USA Network has hammered out a deal for a seventh season of signature skein "Monk" and will use the Tony Shalhoub starrer to anchor an aggressive summer sked of originals.

This summer the Peacock-owned cabler will have fresh episodes of no less than seven series -- a number unlikely to be surpassed by any other cabler, according to USA exec veepee of original programming Jeff Wachtel.

***New TV Guide Article***

*****************************************

Finale airs Friday, Sept. 14 at 9 pm

Donal Logue guest-stars as a grifter, but the big news is Monk's other chance encounter. Says star Tony Shalhoub, "He literally bumps into a woman on the street. She's a total stranger, but he can't get her out of his head. I don't want to give too much away, because it's a poignant ending." Maybe a setup for romance when the show returns in January? "It may be time to open that door," Shalhoub says. "And not a moment too soon."

The First Half Of Season Six ...

Season six premiered Friday, July 13th at 9/8c. The following information listed below is episode titles, guest stars, and little bit about what the episode is about, for the first half of season six.

Filming for season six started back in March, Mr. Monk and His Biggest Fan was the first episode filmed. Returning guest stars include, Sharon Lawrence as Linda Fusco and Sarah Silverman as Marci Maven. Here's a little bit about the episode "When Marcie’s recently dead dog is accused of attacking and killing a woman, she tries to get Monk to help her solve the case."  A USA Network Monk Forum poster by the name of GuHLeer, took some really nice behind the scenes pictures and videos, there are listed below the season six information.

Mr. Monk and the Buried Treasure, was the second episode filmed. Monk finds himself in a dangerous situation when he helps his psychiatrist's son follow a treasure map. Returning guest star include, Cody McMains as Dr. Kroger's son, Troy Kroger.

Mr. Monk and the Wrong Man, was the third episode to be filmed. Monk may have got the wrong man convicted years before and he wants to set things right. No guest stars annouced for this episode, yet.

Mr. Monk and the Captain's Girlfriend, (Now entitled, Mr. Monk and The Bad Girlfriend) was the fourth episode filmed for season six.  Monk suspects the Captain's girlfriend, Linda Fusco, of murder. Sharon Lawrence, will return again as Leland's girlfriend.

Mr. Monk and the Rapper, was the fifth episode to be filmed. Monk is hired to clear the name of a famous rap star who is accused of murder. Snoop Dogg will be a likely guest star in this episode, according to the starbulletin.com. The behind the scenes video confirms that Mr. Dogg is a guest star. Also guest starring Kurupt.

Mr. Monk and the Naked Man, was the sixth episode to be filmed. Monk must confront his prejudice against nudists when he's called to investigate a murder on a nude beach. Guest stars include, Alfred Molina, Angela Kinsey, and Diedrich Bader.

Mr. Monk and the Daredevil, was the seventh episode filmed for season six. Monk's world is turned upside-down when he learns a famous daredevil's secret identity is his archrival — Harold Krenshaw! Returning guest stars include Shane Elliott and Tim Bagley returning as Harold Krenshaw in this episode. Directed by Jonathan Collier.

Mr. Monk and the Birds and The Bees, was the eighth episode being filmed for season six. Monk tries to prove a sports agent is guilty of murder while helping Natalie’s teenage daughter with her love life. Emmy Clarke (Julie Teeger) will appear in this episode along with Gail O'Grady and Vincent Ventresca.

Mr. Monk Stays Up All Night, will be the ninth and final episode to be filmed this half season. When Monk suffers from insomnia, he ventures out into the night and stumbles upon a murder. Donal Logue and Andy Mackenzie will guest star in this episode. See this TV Guide article for more information.

The second half of the season ...

As you heard, a Christmas episode is also in the works, Mr. Monk and the Man Who Shot Santa. Early reports said that, John Turturro (Ambrose Monk) will be in this episode. But that is incorrect, we won't see him in this episode. Instead, Larry Miller will guest star in this episode.

Siren Update on Monk Contract Situation Siren

"The big question: How much longer can "Monk" last?

"We're renegotiating now. We hope the show continues for another two years," says Breckman, adding that two years would be his limit as well as Shalhoub's.:

"Monk" star and exec producer Tony Shalhoub says the sixth season of the Emmy-winning USA Network show returning July 13 could be the last for the beloved obsessive-compulsive detective.

"My contract is up in November, and we're going to have to see how it all plays out," says Shalhoub, who's won three Emmys, a Golden Globe and two SAG Awards for his portrayal. "I do love the people and I love the part, but it's a question. There's a lot of stiff competition, especially with so much more programming on basic cable. The field has really become quite full." If he does continue with the character, Shalhoub says he's definitely not interested in signing another long-term contract. "I will have to take them one year at a time."

If this does turn out to be "Monk's" last season, Shalhoub promises some unforgettable segments. "We have some great things coming down the pike," says Shalhoub. In the Friday (7/13) episode, controversial comedienne Sarah Silverman returns in a role she played three years ago, the stalker of a TV star. "But now she's become this very, very aggressive and fanatical devotee of Monk's. Over time he gets sort of seduced into the fact that she worships him." The second episode is "Mr. Monk and the Rapper, with Snoop Dogg as the special guest star. "Talk about two worlds colliding," says Shalhoub with a laugh. "In the beginning there's a fictitious rapper called Extra Large who's killed by a car bomb. Snoop Dogg plays his rival rapper, MurdeRuss, who comes to hire Monk because he knows all fingers will be pointing at him."

Shalhoub says it was the first time he'd ever met Snoop Dogg — "Our paths for some reason have never crossed," he quips — but adds, "He's a friend now. He was terrific. It's a lovely episode." He says we won't be seeing Monk break out in any rhymes in the episode, but once he solves the crime "Snoop raps the summation. Monk is trying to do the summation to a crowd that's not listening to him, so he comes in and helps Monk.

Tony Shalhoub contributes to EXTRA Cans for the Needy at the Ultimate Green Room Pre-Oscar Event

Tony Shalhoub contributes to EXTRA Cans for the Needy at the Ultimate Green Room Pre-Oscar Event (with founder Mystery Mike Hennessey)

April 9, 2007 - Tony Shalhoub, who plays our favorite dysfunctional character, Adrian Monk, airing on the USA Networks series, Monk is now a fan of OURS! "Monk" has signed on with EXTRA Cans; the cast and crew of the program are donating their on-location containers to EXTRA Cans, and all recyclables dropped in the Gold Bins on the Monk production set directly benefit people in need.

Extra Cans For The Needy is an interesting organization. Mysterious, perhaps, due to Mystery Mike Hennessey, who runs this organization that encourages people to recycle while benefiting the homeless. Everyone wins!

Extra Cans for the Needy is no stranger to Hollywood. Sharon Lawrence is the celebrity spokesperson. The pre-Oscar Ultimate Green Room proceeds went to benefit the organization, as well. During that event, Tony Shalhoub stopped by (and talked to us about his RAV4 EV) and met up with Mystery Mike and a beautiful new relationship was born!

The set of Monk now has a special “gold bin” to allow everyone on set to recycle and benefit those in need. Monk is the first on board with this, but Extra Cans hopes that many more Hollywood sets sign up, as well.

You can do your part, too. On Earth Day, the organization launched 44 Days of Recycling. They hope that you will collect your recyclables, and any others that you can find, over these 44 days. You can then either bring them to the first person in need that you meet by saying, “Would you like to redeem these cans for cash?” Or, you could recycle them and get the cash (in the states that actually give you cash), and donate that money to a charity for the homeless, such as Extra Cans. Report your donations & they’ll tabulate national results!
